Should I learn how to drain my dog's glands myself or get them surgically removed?

My super cool 45lb female dog feels discomfort in her rectal area until the glands just beneath that spot leak out about 1/4 cup of clear fluid. The liquid is mildly pungent but doesn't smell like feces. I don't know what the glands do. The vet says many dogs experience this and they can be surgically removed (very expensive) but I don't think surgery is good for an animal--it's very traumatic and difficult to prevent infection. The alternative is to learn how to drain them myself but that's kinda wierd to me--I didn't get her for that purpose lol. I like cuddling with my dog but not squeezing her . What would you do? Should I force my 9 year old step son to help out?

Blue heelers are excellent dogs! They should be outside most of the day with LOTS of room to run, when you say BIG yard are we talking an acre? half an acre? what? we had them growing up and they need more then jsut a large backyard, if thats all you can offer make sure you walk the dog daily and do activities with them that will allow them to blow off lots of steam. They like to be close to their families as well so bringing them in at night is best. Or when its super hot or cold! They are hurding dogs so keep that in mind. They will get along ok with your cats, and they love kids.

Depends on how long the horse has been at the new place. He needs time to settle and adjust to the new routine. But if he's been there a month or so and is still not settled, take him back to the place he knows. We had a 30+ yr old horse who we retired to a field. After 2 months he had lost so much weight and was so unhappy that we had no choice but to bring him back to the show barn. He taught walk/trot lessons up until a few weeks before he finally had to be put to sleep from OLD age. Sometimes if they know a certain routine, change is hard, even if you think the change is better for them.

Yellow Jackets are a fascinating bunch. I've seen one chase, catch, sting, and carry off a fly in mid flight. My best guess is they are just like sharks. Their only purpose is to eat, fly, and make babies. Their sting for me is enough to give me cold symptoms for a few weeks. Odd reaction, the nurse at the place I drive to says to monitor those stings, for hypersensitive reactions. I touched the nest hidden under a hand rail and the little beggars zeroed in on the hand that touched the nest and stung it. Pheromones I guess? Don't get too close, O.K.???

Put the cables back in and it started up fine and idled for 10 minutes, when I went to leave, the motor stalled at an idle. It will not start at all anymore? 127,000 highway miles. My soon to be MIL has been a major problem in our relationship. We have been together for six years and we each have a son they are the same age, andthey are both with us half the time. Well she sent a nice little email stating all kinds of hateful things about me and how I am this horrible person and parent...even as far as calling my mother a slut. She told him that as long as I am around she will not be, and that she will go through his ex-wife to see her grandson. She also stated that my son is a s*** head and he is all screwed up compared to her grandson, and she can't stand to be around him. To her its all this big competition between the 2 boys, but they are completely different kids. So I sent her a nice email back touching on each point she made about me and my family. I didn't call her names, I wasn't rude...I was just blunt and to the point about each accusation she made towards me. I also let her know that I want her and my fiance to have a relationship, but that she is not welcome in our home if she continues this behavior. So she won't respond to me, but sent my fiance this pity email about how he has broken her heart into peices and she is trying to live her life to the fullest because she could die tomorrow(in which she has no ailments), and he doesn't love her anymore, but she loves and needs him. He is so stressed, and she keeps sending him email after email being more hateful...and I think it is because she is not getting her way this time. A small kitchen, dining, bar living room combo. And a very small laundry room in hall. Not in great shape, but somewhat livable if your standards are low. Needs quite of bit of work to repair a leak on roof, floor repair and leaky faucets. The trailer sits on a spot that is not owned by trailer owner. The plumbing pipes need reworked and the septic tank needs reworking. Most of the windows are cracked and don't seal properly. The floors have holes in places. I want to install plantation shutters on side by side windows but have an air conditoner in one, will it fit?

Thermoplastic versus Wooden hardshell guitar cases?

I am looking to buy a hardshell case for my Epiphone LP Special 2 (Yeah, cheap but good enough for my at my skill level right now.). On Rondo Music, I found the Dougl EGC - 300LP(http://www.rondomusic.com/egc300lpblk.html) which is made of wood, and also found the Musician's Gear Economy Molded Guitar Case (http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Musician%27s-Gear-Economy-Molded-LPStyle-Guitar-Case?sku=544045), and I'm unsure on what to buy. The thermoplastic case has good reviews, but has one or two saying the two sides aren't even aligned, nor do the keys even fit into the lock. The Douglas doesn't even have reviews, but honestly it's just aesthetically better to me, and the feet it has looks very useful. But I figure the plastic would protect it better. 64-bit is practically for more ram. In Vista64 there are two program folders; one is Programs, one is Programs(86). The 86 is were all none 64bit things go. Each core runs at 1.8 multithreading between cores, but your speed is 1.8. This kind of is doubles your speed because of the load it can take, but your still really at 1.8, with lots of cache. The os is 64bit and multithreads. The program that your running will be multithreaded as one thread. Bottom line is more ram. You want the ram go 64. I did and nothing changed.- except more ram :)

I found a $100 bill, took it to my bank and it was counterfeit - will I get in trouble?

I was at a laundromat washing a bunch of clothes from my store. I put the clothes from the washer into the dryer. When I went to get the clothes out of the dryer I saw a $100 bill that was slightly damp right in front of my dryer. I thought maybe it dropped out of one of the pants I was washing and maybe I just didn't see it ---- but that seemed unlikely so I asked the other person that was there at the time and he said no it wasn't his so I took it to the bank later that day --- my bank. It turned out it was counterfeit ---- I thought it was odd since when you held it up to the light there was a line showing through it and the face of the president on the one end like it's supposed to be. I told them I had found it while doing laundry which was why it was damp (it had since dried up but was crumpled). I said OK I'd tear it up right then and there and throw it away. Out of nowhere came some other teller who was "roaming" she must have been a manager, although she wasn't the bank manager. She said No --- you can't tear that up - she told my teller I had to initial it and the teller had to initial it and put my account number on it and send it somewhere. I initialed it but told my teller I didn't want my account number put on it. I didn't want to get in trouble for this. She shook her head and said no ---- I wouldn't get in trouble and indicated she wouldn't put my account number on the bill. However, if a manager told her to do it, I don't see how she could not do it. Will I be investigated by the federal government for this phony bill I found? I had seen a phony bill before but this didn't look anything like the phony one --- I thought the color was off because it was damp. They never tested it or wrote on it with the "counterfeit" pencil sometimes they use - they just looked at it. Please help --- I'm a nervous wreck!

I just bought two gerbils and the first one learned how to climb the tubes really quickly and hung out in the top room a lot. A while after the other one did too. Closing Excel with program close X only closes workbook?

When I go to close a workbook in Excel 2007, I click the large X to close the program and workbook. It doesn't close the program, but only the workbook. When I do Alt-F4, that closes the whole thing. I have to click the X twice. I've been to Excel Options and tried fooling around with the "show all windows in the taskbar," but that's annoying. I like that box checked, and should be to be able to close the program and workbook in one click of the mouse. Anything to help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not a doctor. You definitely sound like you have had to grow up well before your time. This isn't exactly the same but I was married years ago to a man whose father ran off, left his mom with five kids and since he was the oldest, he had to grow up very quickly. He had a scholarship to go to school and gave it up. My point is - because he had to grow up so quickly - he regressed later on. I was married to him during the time of his regression and I couldn't handle it. I only mention this because as sorry as I felt for him, I had to protect myself. With that said, which grandmother is it - your mother's or your father's? If it's your mother's mother, then she may have her own issues dealing with your mother. The fact that you went over there to "get away" and didn't appreciate what she did for you is very understandable. You just wanted to be somewhere and hang out and be a kid. Either way, if it's your mother's mother or your father's, even though she's an adult, she wants to be appreciated and that's unfortunate for you because it sounds to me like the two of you need a healthy relationship with everything that your mother's condition brings on the family. My advice is to call your local mental health center or family service center and go talk to someone about this. Most of what your feeling is a natural consequence of what you've experienced. Also, if you get help, then your little brother will see that he too can grow up and find a way to be healthy. Do everything you can to find healthy outlets, the more you do that the better you will be at handling being at home sometimes and around your mother. Those kinds of illnesses have a domino effect. If she can't take care of herself and doesn't take her medication, it's a role reversal and you become the parent and not the child. You definitely need some outside support so that you can remain healthy and go on and have a healthy life and accept what you've been through and the fact that your mother most likely won't get better. False positive for Down's with amnio?

My sister just learned from her preliminary amniocentesis that her baby girl is positive for Down's Syndrome. The final report is due next week. Both my sister and I are RN's. We both know that this means in all probability her baby does have Down's. But, I am hopeful that there is someone out there who has gone through the AFP, Level 2 ultrasound, and amnio test with results that read "positive" when the baby was actually fine? Just looking for hope.

Bichons are notoriously hard to housebreak - many breed descriptions point this out. Keep up the crate training, be super consistent, watch her like a hawk when she's out and be patient. As for the leash training, enroll in obedience cl. I've trained tons of dogs too but I always go back to cl each time because I always learn something new and because each dog is a little different and needs a different approach. My maltese puppy is losing hair. . . why?

Hello! I just adopted a 13wk old puppy. He has lost some hair around his eyes, and on the tip of his tail. The animal clinic said that he wasn't eating very well (if at all) when he first came. They kept him an extra two weeks, after we officially adopted him. We have him home now, and he's eating fine. We've been feeding him, Before Grain Ground Buffalo(he won't eat solid food) mixed with some NutraCal, steamed carrots, and a little bit of pureed pumpkin. He eats about 3-4x a day. We took him to the vet, and the vet gave us some fish oil tablets to give him 2x a day, this will help his coat the vet said. The vet also said he didn't see any other problems with him, and that we just need to be patient. However, he's been loosing more hair since we've had him, which has been a week. It's only along his tail and around his eyes. I'm worried about him, any suggestions anyone? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks!

My opinion is that you're not bad looking, and you need to start working on being happy with yourself. Stop thinking of yourself as unattractive. If you can't love yourself for who you are, why would you expect anyone else to? Think about the kind of person you really want to be, and do what it takes to make yourself that person (and I don't mean rich and famous--I mean personality traits you want). When you're ready to marry someone, find someone who is worth being with. I can't imagine cheating on someone I cared about, and I certainly can't imagine telling him he was ugly or not good enough for me. That's shallow and petty, and doesn't need to be done. If he was haring me I'd just tell him I'm not interested in him and ask him to leave me alone. Make sure the women you're dating are the kind of women you want for a wife, not necessarily the kind who make a great one night stand or a decent girlfriend. Look beyond appearances and find someone who is a truly great person, and you won't have to worry about that kind of silliness any more.

First, I recommend a good neurologist. Explain your symptoms. There have been a large number of drugs that treat epilepsy since the 70s. I too am on Dilantin. I also have hypothyroidism which I am dealing with. I am not a doctor, but if it was me, I would ask the neurologist if he could maybe add another drug and lower your dosage of Dilantin. Just a thought. Also ask to get bloodtests, if you haven't already. An endocrinologist may also be of help. I am actually seeing one soon, as they deal with hormones, Ask your neurologist if that is something you should pursue. Hypothyroidism can be controlled. As far as the sickness, it may be because your body is stressed. Talk to your doctors first and get your dosages settled. The rest should fall in place.

Has he been to the vet for a complete checkup? If he has and is healthy then you are just going to have to ignore him. You need to put him in there like it's no big deal. Don't make a big fuss. Just put him in there and tell her he's a good boy. Do this about 10 minutes before you leave him. Don't tell him goodbye. Just go about your normal routine. Upon returning home or to the room. Don't pay any attention to him for about 3 minutes. Do something whereshe can see you. I come in and get the mail and open it. Then I go over and open up the crate and let him out without making big deal about it. If you make a fuss over them then they will think it's better outside then in.

When I used to have a lot of anxiety it always made my stomach problems worse. The best thing you could do is try to remain calm and stress free. Ginger ale can sometimes help settle my stomach, but I find the perscriptoin Zofran works the best. Your doctor might not perscribe you that just for anxiety (I've only been on it since having serious stomach problems) so you could try Promethazine which works pretty good. Good luck! We have provided her with a wonderful home and support system, but she continues to take it for granted. 6 y.o with bipolar/adhd/behavior/anxiety issues denied iep but is he eligable?

My son whom is six years old entered kindergarten this fall. In March I requested an IEP for him. They did the testing and found him not eligable because he had no sigificant delays. He gets SSI for his bipolar disorder. I came home and researched, advocated for him and got him covered under Section 504 so he does have a 504 plan in place for him at school which includes a 1:1 aide, counselling, social skills group, bahavioral ysis, and behavioral intervention plan. I just got him a neuropsych evaluation on my own. The dr. said that my son needs an IEP, along with smaller cl size preferably no more than nine kids and two teachers. He believes that my son has ADHD, and bipolar with rapid cycling, along with some other diagnosis that he is not sure of yet without the results being scored. He is going to have me a preliminary report for our 504 plan meeting next week. He told me that if the school denies my son an IEP again, for me to get a lawyer. My son gets anxiety from being with all the other children, has had behavioral problems at school in the last couple weeks including hitting another child, kicking a girl, hitting a teacher, biting the sped director bloody, hiding under the structures outside, slamming lockers, and sleeping in cl. Do you agree that with these behaviors his education is effected by his disability and that he needs an IEP? Also does the school need to abide by what the neuropsych director recommends?"

How come I am still considered a dependent when I try to fill out my FAFSA form. I'm 23 years old, I have my own house that I pay taxes and homeowners insurance on, I have my own car, my own bills , and I file taxes claiming myself as a dependent. I have been trying to research it online but there are so many kinds of loans and everything I dont know where to begin. Also I dont really understand most of the things I have read.
