I need help with Orchids. Bleh.?

I would really like some advice on Orchids. What is the best climate for them? I live in South Carolina so it is usually fairly warm (sometimes hot and humid.) Should I get one considering this climate? Any tips on handling and planting them? What are the prettiest ones called? Where can I buy them? How much do they cost? Any help would be much appreciated.
